Focusing on the need for a consistent approach to the protection of vulnerable marine ecosystems by all regional fisheries management organizations (RFMOs), alignment with the BBNJ Agreement, and the importance of continued implementation of the EU Deep Sea Access Regulation, the DSCC’s submission on EU External Fisheries Action to DG MARE provides recommendations to strengthen the EU’s leadership role in ocean conservation and management on the high seas.
With several RFMO meetings upcoming, the recommendations in this submission serve as a timely reminder of the importance of a consistent, science based, and ambitious EU voice across all deep-sea RFMOs.
