In 2016 and 2022, United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) parties agreed to address climate change impacts in bottom fisheries and Vulnerable Marine Ecosystem (VME) protection.

To assess the implementation of these commitments within Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs) that manage deep-sea fisheries, we reviewed 217 documents across binding RFMO conservation and management measures (CMMs), adopted nonbinding recommendations and resolutions, and other RFMO reports relevant to bottom fisheries and deep-sea habitats, for climate-related terms.
