The Parties of the Southern Indian Ocean Regional Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA) will meet for their twelfth annual discussion in Ebene, Mauritius, from Monday, June 30, 2025, to Friday, July 4, 2025.
DSCC has attended SIOFA meetings as an official Observer since its first meeting, and expresses its appreciation for the efforts of SIOFA Parties to address the many challenges it has faced in implementing sustainable fisheries. The DSCC continues to encourage Parties to increase their efforts to also ensure the protection of vulnerable and important ecosystems and habitats, including the full implementation of CBD and UNGA resolutions to protect vulnerable marine ecosystems (VMEs), including seamounts, ridges, hydrothermal vents, cold water corals, and SIOFA-specific VME elements from destructive fishing practices, including bottom trawling.
