IUCN motions – and the resulting resolutions and recommendations – are the basis of IUCN’s general policy and an effective means of influencing conservation policy, law, implementation and outcomes internationally. Around 125 motions will be voted on at or before the IUCN World Conservation Congress (WCC) 2025, taking place in Abu Dhabi 9-15 October, resulting in WCC 2025 recommendations and resolutions.
The following motion submitted by WWF-Australia (lead proponent) in association with the Deep-Sea Conservation Coalition and the co-sponsors listed below has been accepted for debate. It will be discussed online 18 April to June 15 via the IUCN members’ portal and voted on by IUCN members between August and September (online) or at WCC 2025. We urge all IUCN members to engage with and support the motion and subsequent implementation.
