The UNGA Bottom Fisheries Review (2026) marks a pivotal moment for the international community to finally deliver on two decades of commitments and protect deep-sea seamounts from destructive practices, such as bottom trawling.
In fully protecting these biodiversity hotspots a significant, foundational layer of high seas protection can be delivered. Seamounts represent an estimated 21% of the global ocean floor.
Members of the United Nations are invited to become champions of the Seamount Accord, advocating for an end to bottom trawling on seamounts on the high seas by the UNGA Bottom Fisheries Review in 2026.
