Ranging from insights on geology and ocean currents, to the enduring cultural connections between people and ocean, to migratory pathways and deep-seabed habitats of the region, this report focuses on the ‘volcanic lost world’ of the Tasman Sea and Lord Howe Rise, the focus of a research symposium earlier this year in Sydney, Australia.

Bringing together information and insights from leaders, scientists, policymakers and advocates in attendance at the symposium, the report provides a first step towards consideration of the area’s protection under the recently-ratified BBNJ Agreement.
